Description
Discover the Sicilian capital led by an activist from Addiopizzo - a grassroots movement established in Sicily to build a community of businesses and consumers who refuse to pay Mafia extortion money, "pizzo" - through an itinerary along highly symbolic places of the fight against the Mafia.
The itinerary starts at the Opera House Teatro Massimo. Passing through the Capo market area and the Piazza della Memoria at the courthouse, it continues towards the square Beati Paoli, the Cathedral, the police headquarters, and City Hall. Along the way, your guide will share reflections on the Mafia and on civil mobilisation against Mafia power. You will also meet some of the businesses who said no to paying the extortion money by joining the Addiopizzo campaign "I pay who does not pay" ("Pago chi non paga" in Italian) in support of those who resist the Mafia.
The tour ends at the Antica Focacceria San Francesco, a historic eatery whose owners were among the first to have had the courage to denounce their extortionists. Here, you have the opportunity to enjoy lunch (not included in tour price).
